Bobby James Ewing, is the youngest son of Jock (an oil tycoon) and Ellie Ewing. Like his older brother, Bobby was a successful oil baron, but he lacked J.R.'s ruthlessness and insisted on playing fair. Bobby, who wasn't just a ladies' man, but was also handsome and had the morals and integrity that his older brother JR didn't have. The oil industry was not Bobby's only interest. From time to time he also took part in the raising of cattle on the family ranch, Southfork. He was also a state senator in Austin for a while and for the most part drove a red Mercedes-Benz SL with the license plate EWING 4.

Bobby was broken hearted after his childhood sweethearts Jenna Wade left him, but he finally found the love of his life when he met Pamela Barnes. In 1978, Bobby showed up at Southfork with his new bride Pam, the daughter of Digger Barnes who was the enemy of Jock Ewing. Bobby and Pam were so much in love and overcame numerous difficulties together, but the marriage could not survive under the pressures of Ewing Oil and because of the deliberate scheme to keep them apart by JR and Katherine (Pam's sister who fell in love with Bobby at first sight).

When Bobby and Pam divorced after a 5-years marriage, they still loved each other very much actually even though Pam had Mark and Bobby involved with Jenna again. Pam always wanted to be back to Bobby as she loved him so much, but she finally decided to get married to Mark after his several times of proposals because she found out Mark was dying. Bobby ,on the other hand, asked Jenna to marry him after he knew that he and Pam would not be back together anymore.

Jenna was kidnapped on the day of wedding and was later charged for murdering her ex-husband, but who knows Katherine was behind all this set-up. During the time Bobby was trying every way to get Jenna free from prison, Pam and Bobby grew closer and they finally admitted they still loved each other. When Jenna was released from prison, Pam knew there was no hope for her and Bobby back together as Bobby was obligated to marry Jenna. The night before Bobby was run down and killed off by Katherine, Bobby asked Pam to marry him again. That's the famous and touching "Swan Song" episode.


When Patrick Duffy agreed to return to the shown from dead, he showed up in the shower scene in season 9 and the whole season 8 (Bobby died) turned into a dream season. In season 9, Bobby and Pam remarried, but on the day of their wedding, Bobby and Pam found out that Jenna was pregnant with Bobby's child. Pamela was deeply hurt by this, not only was this a reminder of Bobby's relationship with Jenna but also the pain of Pam being unable to bear a child of her own. Sooner, Pam died when her car hit a tanker and exploded as Victoria decided to quit the show. That's the end of Pam and Boddy.
